Horsham Photographic Society | 23rd February 2016

An evening lecture for the Natural History group of the Horsham Photographic Society. Natural history photography often follows rigourous and occasionally inflexible guidelines. This is no bad thing if the photographs are destined for educational purposes or stock, but for a personal portfolio some of these rules can stifle creativity and the development of a personal style. This is particularly true for those photographers aspiring to run their own professional business, where distinctive imagery can be key to success. I’ll show a selection of animal photographs ranging from native wildlife to domestic pets and kept animals. I’ll talk about how I photograph them and how I’ve achieved long-term success on the competition and accreditation circuit. The lecture may be restricted to members only, please contact Horsham Photographic Society for further information.

The Photography Show – Birmingham NEC, March 2015

Visit the dedicated Olympus seminar theatre for inspiring seminars from the Olympus visionaries. I’ll be talking about how I capture meaningful photographs of animals in the kind of ordinary everyday locations that most of us have access to close to our homes. I’ll also talk about the advantages and benefits of downscaling my equipment. Entry is by separate ticket only – please visit the Olympus stand for more details.

“Thank you so much for a superb presentation last night, it’s one that I have been re-calling at various times throughout today. I’m so pleased that you included the pet photography, that was spot on. The technical information that you imparted to the group was invaluable, particularly about ISO’s, environments and various light scenarios, the like of which we rarely receive from other presenters. It was also refreshing to hear from someone who knew about colour, adaptive/additive and also complimentary backgrounds, this is something I try to adopt in my own photography. To top all of the technical gems, you then presented us with an array of super awarding winning photos. I think you have given the group a feast of inspiration to get out and create images, thank you.” Horsham Photographic Society – Natural History Group
